MONAD Industries’ 3D Printed Futuristic Violin

I really wish this would be accompanied by a video so we could hear what this instrument sounds like! Hopefully, there will be a recording of the four 3D instruments being played later this month. I could definitely see this being played on stage with Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element fame. This instrument is definitely “Nerd Approved“.

What you’re looking at is a crazy futuristic looking 3D printed instrument called a two-string piezoelectric violin. It was created by MONAD industries of Miami, Florida and will be on display at the 3D Print Design Show in New York City on April 16th and 17th along with four other 3D instruments. All of the instruments will be played by musicians during the event.

MMORPG April Fools’ Day Shenanigans

Thanks to Justin Olivetti over at MassivelyOP.net, we have a substantial list of nearly 40 MMORPGs and how their respective game devs decided to celebrate April Fools’ Day. Everyone from WOW and GW2, to TSW and RIFT got caught up in the festivities. As an avid MMORPGer, I always love when the game I’m playing has holiday related fluff to keep the community entertained and connected.

It’s April 1st, and in the MMO space that means that studios morph into merry tricksters and devious liars. But how will you keep track of all the goings-on today? With this article, of course!

We’ll be endeavoring to collect and link to all of the fun and wacky April Fools’ Day pranks that are going on in MMOs and on studios’ websites. If you know of one that’s not on the list, send us a tip or leave a comment below, as we’ll be updating this post all day.

World of Warcraft teases a T.I.N.D.R. box so that you can help your companions find a companion of their own. There are also a heap of funny patch notes to peruse.

Guild Wars 2 has turned everyone into an old timey people-airplane, which is making the fights all that much more fun.

League of Legends’ URFitational has hit disaster — who would have known that NURF would fail so badly?

Star Citizen has partnered with LEGO to produce adorable toy versions of these hardcore spaceships. The game’s also added several reproductions of famous spaceships.

Final Fantasy XIV’s top-secret project is an RTS mini-game with companions for the Gold Saucer!

War Thunder is adding a new armored vehicle to its WWII setting: battle mechs (video)! Also, potato launchers.

There’s an unauthorized video posted to RuneScape’s YouTube channel. Absolutely, positively, DO NOT WATCH IT.

Puzzle Pirates is facing a wave of space invaders!

A typo in a Path of Exile update has led to a cat-astrophe of insane proportions.

Ascent: The Space Game showed off the newest model of its… cultured spaceship.

Hearthstone is now selling B’Motes expression packs, which might be a joke but you just know would make a fortune if they actually did it.

Infinite Crisis goes “behind the voice” for Krypto the Dog. It’s perhaps the best thing you’ll watch all day.

Path of Exile’s Reddit was swapped with Diablo III’s.

Wizard101 and Pirate101 want to sell you Wonky the Donkey, the animal that uses YOU as a mount! Also, you can take a tour of the KingsIsle office and become very disturbed.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has several new… questionable mounts available for the game.

Speaking of mounts, how about swimsuits and surfboards in Firefall or giant ducks in EverQuest II?

Heroes of the Storm introduces big head mode. Tell us the truth: You would totally play this mode, wouldn’t you?

Warframe is warning players of the coming of the Stocker. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Landmark is going totally retro with its graphics. Does it make the game better?

Shroud of the Avatar’s community is on strike because of sitting down. Or not sitting. Or something.

MMO bloggers and fan sites have gotten into the spirit of the day as well: Chronicles of Tyria introduced a new Thrall-themed banner, Psychochild starts his own MMO Kickstarter, and LOTRO Players reported on the closing of Lalia’s Market.

Attack On Titan Becomes Nintendo 3DS Game

Given Attack on Titan is currently being made into a live-action movie, it doesn’t come as a major surprise that a game company is looking to cash in on the manga franchise. According to GamerInformer, it’s unfortunately coming to 3DS. It feels like something that should be on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 instead. The game is slated for release in a few weeks and I hope it turns out to be worth it. That said, I’m really not sure how much plot the game can have given the manga is still early in the storytelling process.

Atlus is bringing the latest version of Spike Chunsoft’s Attack on Titan game, Humanity in Chains, to western shores. The title was announced today during the Nintendo Direct, and you can check out the trailer and screenshots below.

Attack on Titan supports local and online cooperative play for up to four, and if you have a Circle Pad Pro or New 3DS, you’ll get more refined control out of the right analog disc or c-stick. In addition, the first two episodes of the anime are available on the eShop for free (you can also catch the series on Netflix).

Whether you prefer your anime titles subtitled or dubbed, you’ll be happy to know that you have a choice. The game is slated for release in May, though a specific date has not yet been confirmed.

Greenscreen Fluffer Ninjas (BoingBoing.net)

This is just all kinds of awesome. I had no idea this was even a thing! That must provide the most awkward facial responses at dinner parties once you share what you’ve been up to in your day (or night) job. Thanks BoingBoing.

An actual job is to be a greenscreen fluffer, dressed in a chromakey gimpsuit, hidden in the background for shampoo commercials, tasked with artfully flicking models’ hair. If you’re very good at that job, you can level up to gimpsuited Superman cape-puppeteer.

The Biggest Thing In The Universe Is So Gigantic It Shouldn’t Exist At All (HuffingtonPost.com)

Awesome, huge, gigantic…are now terms completely dwarfed by an amazing new discovery! Thanks to the nerdy folk over at The Huffington Post, we’re now all in the know.

What’s the biggest known structure in the universe?

Astronomers used to think it was a “filament” of galaxies known as the Sloan Great Wall. But recent research suggests a different structure is even bigger — and its size has astronomers scratching their heads.

Meet the Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall (Her-CrB GW). Check it out in the video above.

“The Her-CrB GW is larger than the theoretical upper limit on how big universal structures can be,” Dr. Jon Hakkila, an astrophysics professor at the College of Charleston in South Carolina and one of the astronomers who discovered the structure, told The Huffington Post in an email. “Thus, it is a conundrum: it shouldn’t exist but apparently does.”

Mysteries just like this are why astronomers scan the skies for a glimpse into the past, as they shed light not only on the early years of our universe, but also more about our galaxy, our solar system, and ultimately, ourselves.

“We are now mapping structures across the sky,” astronomer Dr. Jay M. Pasachoff, director of the Hopkins Observatory at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., who was not involved in the great wall’s discovery, told The Huffington Post. “We’re learning how the universe grew up. So we’re learning about how our cluster of galaxies grew up and how our own galaxy grew up and how our sun formed, and how the Earth formed soon there after. We’re looking back at our history.”

Because astronomers are still mapping the sky, there just may be something even grander than the Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall in our universe.

“The danger of finding the biggest, or most distant, or the oldest things in the universe is always that sooner or later someone is likely to come along and find something bigger, more distant, or older than the thing you found,” Hakkila said. “So far we have not been upstaged, but it has only been about six months since we published.”

The finding was published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

ESO: What Are Veteran Ranks?

With the launch of ESO coming in just a couple weeks, we have a look at what you can expect when you get to “endgame”.

After reaching the level cap of 50 in ESO, you then start into the “elder content” which includes Veteran Ranks. This is another series of level progression that unlocks more gear, etc. There will be Adventure Zones and such for 24-man content, but your story and character’s “single player” progression doesn’t just end at level 50.

Thanks to Force’s video for a walkthrough of Veteran Ranks.

How Do Veteran Ranks Work?

1. At level 50, you receive Veteran Rank 1.

2. Veteran Ranks increase from 1 to 10.

3. Each Veteran Rank level increase gives you +10 into your Magicka, Health, and Stamina.

4. Gaining Veteran Ranks does not give you more attribute points to spend. Those cap at 49 points (1 point, levels 2-50).

5. Gear will require Veteran Rank 3, Veteran Rank 6, etc., just like previous gear required you to be level 16 or 40 or the like in order to equip.

6. You earn XP and gain Veteran Ranks by completing content in the other factions’ zones. This occurs after you finish your personal story from your original faction’s content.

7. Mobs scale up to your level in enemy factions. So mobs will be Veteran Rank 1, etc. and start with about twice as many stats as previous mobs your level.

8. Veteran Rank content is PVE only; you don’t see enemy players.

9. Force reached Veteran Rank 1 (so, level 50) in under 4 days played in beta. So, that’s very quick leveling. We’ll see tons of Veteran Rank 2+ in the first week.

Quick Update

Thanks to the over 34,000 of you who’ve visited the site. It’s been a fun few months and I definitely miss being able to post regularly. I’m back in school full-time, still working full-time, still catering, and trying to get some sleep (and game!). Unfortunately, this means /LFG is a bit on hold at the moment. Hopefully the last two weeks of December will see a few dozen new posts as I have the time off from work.

In the meantime, I hope you have the happiest and safest of holidays!

EverQuest Next Landmark: Founder’s Packs Overview Video

EverQuest Next Landmark now has official Alpha, Closed Beta, and Open Beta dates along with three brand new ways for your to enter the testing phase early. The video link is below as well as the transcript I wrote for the video’s contents. Also, the official explanation of each of the Pack items is here.

Hi, I’m Terry Michaels, Senior Producer of Everquest Next Landmark.

Landmark is a creative, social MMO unlike anything we’ve seen before. We want to do things a little different. We’re gonna give players access to our alpha, much earlier in the development process than we ever have before. We’re gonna be offering three different Founders Packs. The Trailblazer, Explorer, and the Settler Pack. Lemme tell you about each of them.

Settler Pack

The Settler Pack is the basic pack.

1. It’s going to give you access to the Closed Beta of Landmark.

2. It’s gonna have a few things that you can show off to your friends like a forum title, and in-game title, as well as a flag that you can place anywhere you want in the world that shows off what you’ve done and what you’ve accomplished.

3. We’re also gonna be giving you a Founder’s Pickaxe. Normally, when you start the game, you’re gonna start with just a pick and it’s going to be a very basic one. The Pickaxe is going to be the Top Tier 1 pick, combined with the highest tier of axe that’s going to be available in the game and this combination of tools is going to be exclusive to all of the Founder’s Packs.

Explorer Pack

And the next pack is the Explorer Pack.

1. With it, you’re gonna get access to Alpha and be one of the first people to get in the game and experience Landmark.

2. You’re gonna get everything that came with the Settler’s Pack as well as a few new things. You’re gonna get the Ring of Bounty, an accessory that allows you to go out in the world and while you’re harvesting you have a chance to get additional resources.

3. You’re also gonna get two exclusive outfits that you can only get through the Founder’s Packs. The first of those is the Courtier’s Regalia. This is a more traditional fantasy themed outfit that will look good in any castle or dungeon. And the next one is the Tech Sergant’s Gear. This outfit would look more at home on a space station or anything that’s more modern.

4. You’re also gonna get the Explorer Flag, and item you can place on any of your claims in the world to show off that you’ve been participating in the game since Alpha.

5. We’re also gonna give you a Mega Pocket. This is an item that will allow you to increase the size of either your personal inventory or your vault inventory, whichever one you feel is most appropriate for you.

Trailblazer Pack

And the last pack is the Trailblazer Pack.

1. This is for the serious Landmark player. This has everything that you get from the Settler’s Pack and the Explorer’s Pack, so you’ll be in Alpha from day one.

2. As well, we’re gonna give you a number of other items. You’re gonna get a flag that demonstrates that you’re a true Trailblazer.

3. You’re also gonna get the Void Vault. This is going to be a unique appearance item that allows you access to your vault network. An average player, it would take weeks for them gather the necessary materials and recipes to be able to be able to craft one of these in the game and you’ll have access from day one.

4. You’ll also get the Mastercraft Bracer, a must have for the serious crafter. This accessory will increase your chances to create high quality items.

5. You’ll get the Noble’s Regalia, a premium fantasy outfit that people will recognize anywhere you go. And you’ll get the Tech Conmmander’s Gear, our premium science fiction outfit.

6. You’ll get four shareable Closed Beta keys so that you and your friends can play and experience Landmark together. And you’ll get your name in the Everquest Next Landmark credits, just like me, only maybe a little lower.

7. In Landmark, finding the part of the world that you care about and that you want as your own is very important. So, as a special perk for Trailblazers, we’re gonna allow you early access to the Open Beta. Plant your flag first.

BLESS: Korean Closed Beta Test Announced (Steparu.com)

Despite little being heard over the past year since G*Star 2012, Steparu uncovered Pmang’s announcement that BLESS will be brought into Korean Closed Beta Testing Q1 2014. This is amazing news, if an entire *year* later than the devs originally scheduled.

blessmain

Neowiz Bless Studio is currently preparing the first closed beta for their blockbuster MMORPG Bless Online. The test is scheduled to start during the first quarter of next year, roughly January to March. If all the upcoming tests go well, they are planning on launching the same year. Now that I have had my taste of Black Desert Online, I am craving for some Bless! Check out the previous trailers below, some of them are worth watching again!
