Spaceship Sizes From Across The Galaxy (Massively.com)

This chart is a massive undertaking. I’m not even sure how he found “specs” for the majority of these, but major kudos to Dirk (and Dan Carlson) on this effort! Super nerdy in the best way possible.

Sci-fi ship chart compares size of ships from EVE, Star Wars, and more

Have you ever been curious about the size comparisons between an Amarr Avatar-Class Titan from EVE Online and a Universe-Class Mass Conveyor from Warhammer 40K? You have?! Well, you’re in luck because DeviantArt user ~DirkLoechel has been assembling one of the largest and most comprehensive size-comparison charts for sci-fi ships.

The chart, which is still an ongoing project, spotlights the ship sizes from many of the most popular sci-fi universes out there, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, and more than a dozen more. Heck, it even has the Red Dwarf on there.

Head over the ~DirkLoechel’s page to see more from this monstrous chart.

Firefall: 2x Crystite Weekend + 30% Off Battleframes

Firefall’s brand new patch implements some 2x incentive along with a big 30% off new battleframes. Oh, and new glider wings AND new zones!

******************************
To properly usher in this week’s Firefall Beta patch, we have some awesome specials and goodies planned for all our New Eden residents. Read below for details on what we have planned for this weekend and beyond!

Double Crystite This Weekend!

This weekend, all Crystite drops and rewards will be double! There is no time like the present to perfect your frame, unlock constraints, or research and craft those items you have been putting off. Crystite rewards will be doubled starting this Friday at 10:00am (PDT) through Monday at 10:00am (PDT)! Please note this is for drops and rewards, refining and the ARES Exchange marketplace are not affected.

30% Discount on Pilot Token Unlocks!

Also, from now until August 20th, all Battleframes can be unlocked for just 7 Pilot Tokens instead of the usual 10. Join us in celebrating frame diversity by unlocking those new frames you have been thinking of trying. No better time to collect a few more frames! (Remember, this only applies to Pilot Token prices; Red Bean prices still remain the same.)

New Glider Wings and other items for Red Bean Buyers!

Starting today, ANY in-game purchase of Red Beans, (from $5 and up), will grant a one-time bonus of a new rechargeable Glider Pad with a new Red Plasma pattern! This glider is on its own cooldown, so it can be staggered with other gliders. Also included are the “Top Run and Gun” helmet and “Target” decal. This is a limited time offer until September 10th and we plan a regular rotation of great bonus items for Red Bean purchases every month.

Unlock the World! Visit our New Zones!

We know that many of you have not yet had the chance to visit new areas in Firefall. We’ve made it substantially easier to reach these exciting new areas. Check the molecular printers for the keys to unlock these new regions if you haven’t yet. Each zone features a unique encounter that will unlock the special story mission, Blackwater Anomaly. In the future, players will be able to push back the Melding in each of these pockets and expand them into full size new zones for Firefall. Unlock the World! Reclaim Earth!

Blackwater Anomaly Runs with Devs & Rangers

Rangers and Red 5 developers will be hosting Blackwater runs and taking groups of players through this exciting 5-man story instance. No keys required, and the Rangers have some small rewards planned for joining them. Look out for devs in chat with the Red 5 logo inviting people into the mysterious new area!

Warhammer 40K MMORPG Revealed at E3 (TenTonHammer.com)

While we’re currently experiencing a strong sci-fi MMORPG showing (Firefall, SWTOR, Defiance, Marvel Heroes, several new announcements for Xbox One and PS4, etc.), it’ll be interesting to see the niche War40K: EC can carve out for itself by the time it launches “End of 2015”. End of 2015? Two-and-a-half years? Dang. That’s longer than I have to wait for an Asian MMORPG to be Westernized and released in the US. Insert sad face here.

Currently the official website shows development is on “Phase 1: Game is Announced” and there are eight more phases to go, with Phase 2 “coming soon”. Thus far, you can choose one of four races (all shown below) and enroll, posting to Facebook or Twitter to show your support and the race you selected. War 40K: EC will offer “3rd Person, Persistent Online Action in the first MMORPG of the 41st Millennium”.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE
THERE IS ONLY WAR

Chaos

Chaos

If your hopes for a Warhammer 40k MMO were extinguished with THQ’s fire sale of Dark Millenium Online, one of the first announcements of E3 (that’s E3 proper, not pre-E3 Xbox One day or the other jump-the-gun events) may get you fired up.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade marks the first MMO for Behaviour (that is, unless we’re counting Sims 3), and the first game since Wet (which, coupled with the possibly orgasmic female on the cover, never fails to bring out my nerd giggles) that has my immediate attention. And even without a glitchy presentation at yesterday’s Microsoft circus, it is apparently coming to the Xbox One.

The show floor hasn’t even been open for 30 minutes and this might qualify as the MMO surprise of the event. While our E3 away team wrangles for an appointment, here’s the full press release:

WildStar: “We Can Fill the WOW Void”

Given how World of Warcraft has been THE juggernaut in the MMORPG arena for nearly a decade, it’s interesting to see other games now hopping on the “we’ll get their subscribers” bandwagon. While it’s true WOW lost a metric ton of subs this year already, the MMORPG market is incredibly saturated now and almost every big MMORPG in the West has gone F2P. Wildstar will have its work cut out for it in order to thrive in a highly competitive marketplace.

I’ve added a few screenies to the bottom of the article. Enjoy!

Mechari 02

The team behind NCsoft’s new MMO Wildstar says it will win back gamers who have abandoned World of Warcraft.

Blizzard’s market-leading MMO lost 1.3m subscribers between February and April this year, and many other titles in the sector have been forced to adopt a free-to-play model to survive.

But Carbine Studios’ game design producer Stephan Frost says Wildstar’s unique structure will ensure it succeeds where other MMOs have failed.

“We’re making something that’s different,” he told MCV.

“We’re coming out at a time when WoW is losing subscribers and we can fill the void for people who want an MMO that’s deep, hardcore but also accessible to people.

“We’ve found through betas and trade shows that MMO players understand our game. They can see the improvements we’ve made and notice that this game is something pretty cool.”

Wildstar’s gameplay varies depending on class: soldiers will focus on combat, while explorers will be tasked with discovering new areas. The game is due this year.
